“My Adventure in Tours – Part 3: City Tour on My Own and Azay le Rideau”

Location: Tours, France

On Day 3, I continued with the city tour on my own in Tours. Basically, I visited the area marked in the map, kicking off with some shopping on Rue National. It was my second time to be alone in the town, but I felt a little confidence in walking around in the town on this day and I could imagine myself living in Tours one day. I really like the size of this city!

So, in this blog, I wanna talk more about Day 4. I made a lot of effort to wake up at 10:00 (I usually wake up around 12:00 when I am on holiday) because G was to take me to Azay le Rideau, a castle which is approx. 30km away from Tours. I have visited most of the castles along La Loire with another French best friend of mine, M, and his family, but this was my first time to see Azay le Rideau. It was freaking cold outside and some ponds on the ground were partially frozen, but the sky was clear. The town where the castle sits was rather empty for the obvious reasons, but I kinda liked the emptiness in the street and in the castle. The castle has never been owned by the royal family (if I remember correctly) but it was really neat. I liked the surrounding moat. Though the size was small, the tower-like buildings on the corners of the castle reminded me of the castle of Cinderella at Disneyland. J

As a visitor, I prefer western castles and palaces because they are “flat” compared to those Japanese ones. lol I know how limited space is in my country. Consequently, we have a tendency to build things upwards as the only solution. Naturally, there are a lot more stairs which make me out of breath in the Japanese castles.　 …did anyone just wonder how old I was!?!!! ANYWAY, I personally find French castles more visitor-friendly this way.

みなこの冒険 in トゥールー第３部　独りで市内観光＆アゼ・ル・リド

場所：トゥール市、フランス

３日目もトゥール市の観光をした。Nationale 通りで買い物をしたりして、地図に印が付いているエリアをまわった。これが市内をぶらぶらするのは２度目で、やっと少し独りでいろいろなところに行くのに慣れてきた。いつかトゥール市に生活している自分が思い描けるくらい。この町の大きさが大好き。

今日は、４日目について書く。この日はすっごく努力して、１０時起き（オフのときは私はいつも１２時に起きる）。予定として、G がトゥール市からだいたい30km くらい離れたアゼ・ル・リド城に連れて行ってくれることになってたから。ロワール川沿いの古城の大半は、別のフランス人の友達 M と彼の家族とともに行ったんだけど、アゼ・ル・リド城はまだ行ったことがなかった。外は、水たまりが部分的に凍るほどク〇寒かったけど、空は真っ青な日だった。アゼ・ル・リド城のある町は、もちろん空っぽな状態だったけど、それがかえってゆっくりできてよかった。このお城は、他のお城のように王家に所有されたことがないお城だけど（記憶が正しければ）、すごくステキだった。そして、お城の周りのお堀も好き。お城のサイズは小さいけど、お城の四方におかれた塔のような建物が。ディズニーランドのシンデレラ城を連想された。J

観光客の意見として。私は西洋のお城や宮殿の方が好き。日本のと比べると、高さがあまりないから。日本ではスペースがかなり限られてるから、解決策として、上へ上へ建物を積み上げる傾向がある。当然の結果、日本のお城には階段がいっぱいあって、私はすぐに息切れ。今だれか私の年齢を疑った！？！！！私的には、フランスのお城の方が訪問者に優しい造りになってると思う。
