Location: Elegu, Amuru District, Uganda

It’s my 4^th day in Elegu, a border crossing point between Uganda and South Sudan. It’s SO HOT here. I knew the climate would be tough in this area cos I was in Elegu 2 years ago. My brain is fried from morning to 17:30 every day! I don’t know how I am doing it, but I am somehow interviewing people. And I’m writing this diary now while waiting for lunch prepared by my friend in the Field Force Unit (Ugandan pork belly in stew!).

In the market

After days of complaining about the stupid mosquito net (the ‘unique design’ made the net so useless…..), it got upgraded to a ‘mosquito tent’ yesterday morning. Awesome!!

Since I was in a good mood thanks to the new ‘tent’, I decided to pick trash inside the premise of the police station. It’s easy to spot some improvements in Elegu compared to what it was like when I first visited here. But what hasn’t changed is the trash around the main building!! I just couldn’t look away from it anymore! People throw whatever things (from used sanitary pads and fake hair for braids to empty bottles of gin and other alcohol all inside a police stationl!!) wherever they want!! I think they should introduce the law to prohibit public littering like in Singapore!! The police will become so rich! No more bribes! A solution to police corruption! Everyone’s happy! Hahaha

That was my Sat morning. Although I can somehow manage my work here, it doesn’t mean my brain functions without any defects. In fact, after using the bathroom in my GH, I was going out in flip flops which were supplied by the hotel for the bathroom. Thank God, I realized it right before the gate!

“間違った（トイレ用）ビーサンで、外出しかける巻”

場所：エレグ村、アムル県、ウガンダ

Chairman who even remembered my name!

今日でウガンダと南スーダン国境検問所の村、エレグに来て４日目。真剣に暑い！２年前もここに来たから、気候がどんだけ厳しいところか知ってた。毎朝起きた瞬間から、夕方５時半くらいまで、私の脳みそはショートしてる状態。自分でも一体どうやってるのかよくわからない。けど、どうにかインタビューをしてる。そして、Field Force Unit の友達がランチ（ウガンダ版ポークベリーのシチュー！！）を作ってくれてる間にこの日記を書いてる。

全く無意味な蚊帳（‘個性的なデザイン’のせいで、もはやもともとの機能を果たさなくなっていた・・・。）のことで、文句を数日間言い続けた成果が実り、昨日の朝蚊帳が「蚊帳テント」にアップグレードされた。よっっしゃ！！笑！ 

その「蚊帳テント」のおかげで上機嫌になったので、エレグ警察署内のゴミ拾いを開始。２年前に初めてエレグに来た時と今ではいくつかポジティブな変化があったのがわかる。逆に２年前と変わらないのは、警察署内のポイ捨て！前は無視したんだけど、もうこれ以上できなかった！まったく、ここの住民は何でも（使った後の生理用品から、ドレッド用のかつらに、ジンとかのアルコールのビンなど）、どこでもポイ捨てするんだから！！シンガポールみたいに、公共の場でのポイ捨て禁止にすべき！！そしたら、絶対警察儲かる！！賄賂なくなる！警察の汚職への解決策！みんな幸せ！笑

これが、私の今週の土曜日の朝でした。なんとかしなきゃいけないことをしてはいってるものの、故障することなく私の小さな脳みそが昨日するわけじゃない。実際、自分の部屋についてるトイレを使った後、ホテル備え付けのトイレ用のビーサンをはいて外出しようとしてたから。笑　ほんと、門の手前で気が付いてよかった！
