Passion fruits in a Ugandan traditional basket

‘My New Addiction’

Location: Muyenga, Kampala, Uganda

Uganda has lots of tasty vegetables and fruits. Passion fruits are my new addiction!

Although I’m yet to understand the difference in taste between those big bananas you can also get in the UK and the little ones (both are sweet, so they are not plantains. According to the locals, they taste SO different!), even I can tell the difference when it comes to passion fruits.

This is how they look inside. YUM!!!

Smaller passion fruits look like they are damaged, but they aren’t! And to me, they taste sweeter than the bigger kind (the bigger ones are more sore). I like both!

The prince ranges between 1,000 – 3,000 shillings (as of today, 3,000 shillings = 1 USD). With that amount of money, you may get 6-12 pieces. When I first bought them from a street shop in Kampala, I paid 2,000 shillings for 6 pieces. But a few days ago, when I bought them in a market, a bag with 12 passion fruits was 1,000 shillings. So random!

One more month until I have to say good bye to them!

２つの異なった品種

‘私の新しい中毒’

場所：ミュエンガ、カンパラ、ウガンダ共和国

ウガンダには、ホントにおいしい野菜と果物がいっぱい。中でも、パッションフルーツは、やばい！

イギリスでも買える大きなバナナと小さなバナナ（両方とも甘いから、プランテーンじゃない。ウガンダ人に言わせてみれば、かなり味が違うらしいんだけど！）の味の違いを理解するにはまだまだ時間がかかりそうだけど、少なくともパッションフルーツに関しては、私でも違いを説明できる。

小さい品種のパッションフルーツは、一瞬見た目が傷んだもののように見えるんだけど、実はそうじゃない！私には、小さいパッションフルーツの方が、大きい品種よりも甘い（大きい品種のほうが、すっぱい）。両方好き！

値段は、大体1,000 – 3,000シリングくらい（今の時点で、3,000シリング = 1ドル = 100円）。そのくらい払って、たぶん６～１２個くらい買える。初めてカンパラのお店で買ったとき、6個2,000シリングだった。でも数日前に市場で買ったとき、12個1,000シリングだった。なぞ！

ってことで、そのパッションフルーツたちにお別れを告げるまで、残すところ、あと１か月！
