“Murchison Waterfalls National Park? What is that?’

 Location: Masindi District, Uganda

This is my first time to come to Masindi, which is located in the western part of the country. I am here to do interviews with police trainers and trainees at the Kabalye Police Training School.

To come here, I had to convince my University’s insurance office that: (1) I was aware of the security risks along the DRC border (95% of Africa is ‘dangerous’ according to them….); (2) I would not go close to the lakes and national parks and instead, stay in the town centre to do my research.

Actually, I didn’t know about those beautiful places to visit around Masindi until S, who is an animal lover, told me. As a Scottish, he loves nature too. So, he did all the research for this (lazy) police nerd (arigato, S!! :) ).

So, here comes Mina whose specialty has been to break rules since kindergarten. I did a day trip to Murchison Falls National Park last Sunday. ‘Oops, I did it again’! :P

The waterfalls.... Really impressive!

The summary of that day: ‘AMAZING’! Yes, it was hot. I was sweating like a pig, but it was worth it!!! All the animals I saw in Disney’s Lion King were there!!!!!! Well, minus the lions, that is. lol

I am really fortunate. Seeing these animals made me REALLY HAPPY like a small girl who went to a zoo for the first time in her life. Mom used to say ‘animals are pure. Free from greed. So, those who like animals are good people’. lol I think my mom’s theory has flaws, but I tend to get along with animal lovers more.

“マーチソン滝国立公園？何それ？”

場所：マシンディ県、ウガンダ

西ウガンダにある、マシンディ県への初訪問。ウガンダ警察のカバリェ警察学校で、教官と研修生たちに取材をするために滞在中。

ここに来るために、大学の保険課に、(1) コンゴ民主共和国との国境沿いの危険（っていうけど、彼らのいうこと聞いてたら、アフリカの 95% が危険だからね。。。）、(2) マシンディ県付近の湖や国立公園に近づかない。そして、町の中心部のみで取材をする、って説得しなきゃいけなかった。笑

実を言うと、動物好きの S が教えてくれるまで、マシンディ県にこんなにいっぱい素敵な場所があるって知らなかった。笑　スコットランド人の彼は、自然も大好き。んで、それを知った彼は、この（怠け者）警察おたくのためにリサーチをしてくれた（ありがとう、S!! J ）

ということで、幼稚園の時から規則を破るのが得意技なみなに火が付いた。笑　この前の日曜にマーチソン滝国立公園に日帰りの旅に行ってきた。‘えへ、またやっちゃった’!　:P

その日の要約：「マジ、すげー！！」。確かに、暑かった。だから、ぶたさんみたいに汗かいてたけど、その価値あり！ディズニーのライオン・キングでみた動物全部がいたんだもん！！！！ま、主人公のライオンだけがいなかったけど。笑

本当に私は、恵まれてる。生まれて初めて動物園に行った小さな女の子みたいに、動物を見て、めっちゃ興奮した。ママは、「動物は純粋な生き物だよ。欲とかないんだもん。だから、動物を好きな人に悪い人はいない」っていうのが口癖。私は、ママの理論には問題があると思うけど、動物好きの人たちと仲良くなる傾向はある。

動物に、食べ物に、自然が豊かなウガンダ。まさに、「アフリカの真珠」の国！
